A complete boxed example of this early 80s expression Cardhu ( pre pure malt change over) complete with box and original booklet.
Cardhu is a Speyside distillery near Archiestown, Moray, Scotland, it has operated since 1885 producing some of the best malt whisky in the world. It produced most of the base whisky used in the Johnnie Walker range so much so that in 1893 the distillery was purchased by John Walker & Sons to secure the future of their stocks, on the condition that the owners the Cummins family remain running the distillery and continue their unique Whisky distilling skills.
Today the distillery still remains in the hands of the Johnnie Walker parent company Diageo.
Up until the late 1980s Johnnie Walker sold Cardhu under a joint branding with distinct marking on the bottle stating that it was produced by Johnnie Walker & Sons.
The Cardhu brand was so strong that in 1990 it was decided to revisit the iconic brand and re- establish its own independent identity but continue with the distinct shape bottle but this time with no relevance to Johnnie Walker & Sons.
